Rotterdam Airport
Rotterdam Airport, located 5.6 kilometers northwest of Rotterdam, is the third largest airport in the Netherlands. It was unrealistic to rebuild Rotterdam Waalhaven Airport destroyed during World War II. In addition, to prevent the German troops from occupying the rebuilt airport, Rotterdam Airport was built on the Zestienhoven polder. The new airport was constructed in August 1955, and completed and put into operation in October 1956. Large national airlines such as Swissair, Lufthansa, and Air France have begun to operate Rotterdam Airport.
